On Friday, May 31, 2013, Senior Helpers of Pawleys Island and the Alzheimer’s Association of South Carolina are hosting two seminars that address this growing public health crisis. Led by nationally- renowned dementia care expert Teepa Snow, these educational seminars will help local families and healthcare professionals gain a better understanding of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. These seminars focus on what the person can do and provide the techniques for effect interaction.
Join Senior Helpers, the Alzheimer’s Association of South Carolina, and Teepa Snow for seminars that provide essential information on how to have a positive and meaningful relationship with loved ones with Alzheimer’s and dementia. These sessions provide basic information and communication skills to improve interactions and ultimately create more meaningful moments together. Families and caregivers will learn strategies to reduce conflict, improve interactions, and work together with loved ones. Teepa will introduce the Senior Gems® approach, a method for identifying characteristics of normal aging through late stage dementia.

The Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach will host a Food and Wine event on Monday, June 10, 2013 from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm at The Brentwood Restaurant and Wine Bistro in Little River. This is a wonderful celebration that helps fund critical programs and services for homeless and abused animals in our community.
The evening includes a wine tasting, heavy hors d‘oeuvres, live music and a silent and live auction. The Humane Society will also be on hand for those interested in pet adoptions. All proceeds from the event directly support the Humane Society’s programs.

The local chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association is hosting its first-ever MDA Muscle Walk on Saturday, June 15th at Joe’s Crab Shack in Barefoot Landing, 4846 Highway 17 South, North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina at 9:00 am.
